We are a Community Development Corporation with over 12 years of experience;
My name is Phillip Caldwell and I am the executive director of Ponchartrain Community Development Corporation (CDC). Our demographic includes residents and businesses of District 6 and District 7 in Detroit. Statistics from Data Driven Detroit show that out of the 1,560 parcels in the area, 295 (18.9%) are residential structures that are vacant while 416 (26.7%) parcels have no structures at all.
When there is a neighborhood consensus that many do not feel safe to be able to walk, live and play, this creates a lack of neighborhood pride and minimizes relationship building among residents. Ponchartrain CDC was formed to give District 7 residents and businesses an organization that is focused on implementing strategies for equitable revitalization by identifying vacant land and structures within the neighborhood that pose a threat to redevelop and activate them.
Ponchartrain CDC is committed to working as the community builder strengthening community pride and confidence through continual visible improvements by abating graffiti, completing vacant building board ups and rehab, maintaining green spaces, and hosting neighborhood cleanups and community mow-a-thons. We are currently engaging stakeholders with our vacant property campaign. Join Ponchartrain CDC as a partner and invest intellectually, socially or financially by contacting us at 313-363-1456 or phil@ponchartrain-cdc.org.
